Used three grades charcoal – ordinary willow charcoal first, then rubbed into tooth of paper with rag, (watercolour paper?) then cheap charcoal (?) then compressed charcoal. Then lifted out lights, using firstly blutack, then putty rubber then, if necessary, ordinary rubber too. Had examples of paintings too – lovely granulating watercolours.

Following the talk by cartoonist Dave Simonds: The indian ink he recommended is Ocaldo Ink obtainable from Calder Colours of Ashby de la Zouch (caldercolours.co.uk) and the indian ink pens are PITT artist pens made by Faber-Castell - if not available locally they are stocked by Spectrum Fine Art & Graphic Materials, Fletchers Walk, Birmingham.
