September 5 Annual General Meeting 2007 : Review of our 71st year plus comments and a short illustrated talk on Artists & Posters by Toby Birch of Northampton University. October 10 (SECOND WEDNESDAY THIS MONTH) Julie Hedges : Ply-Split Braiding Ply-Split Braiding is a colourful textile artform developed from the camel harnesses of N.W. India. Julie is a much-travelled international authority who uses yarns and cords to make beautiful and functional wearable & sculptural pieces based on natural patterns.
November 7 Jeremy James : Ceramic Sculpture Jeremy creates unique images of people and animals, both large and small, in stoneware, porcelain and earthenware - each imbued with their own distinct personality. Lively, full of character and beautifully crafted, his work is also great fun.
December 5 Andrew Varah : Wood & Illusion Andrew is a local designer-craftsman with a uniquely creative approach to furniture and marquetry, including his amazing multi-reflecting illusions. His impressive and stunningly original work has gained him national eminence, an international reputation and a client list of the highest calibre.
January 2 Chris Saunderson : Wildlife Painting in Gouache A regular Gold Medal winner in the national Wildlife Art Society exhibitions, Chris portrays incredibly lifelike animals with a very free and personal use of textures, colours and techniques. Brought up in South Africa he is now based in Leamington.
February 6 Member’s Critique Evening : Theme to be announced Members display & discuss their own work with the guidance of our resident experts. March 5 Julie Jackson : Ink & Wash Technique Vigorous large monochrome studies from sketchbooks and life using brush, ink and watercolour form the basis of Julie’s special presentation for us. She is also a talented oil painter anddraughtswoman (as seen at Art in Action) and a committee member of the prestigious New English Art Club.
April 2 Patrick Cullen : Scenes in Oil & Pastel Patrick is best known for his atmospheric images of Italian landscapes and town scenes, as he spends much of his year there. When not painting in Europe or Asia he is based in London, where he works in oils, watercolour and pastels, for which he has won many awards. He will demonstrate his pastel skills.
May 7 Shuhua Jin : Chinese Brush Painting Shuhua Jin’s artistic career began in communist Shanghai, where he learnt traditional Chinese Brush painting. Visiting London, he stayed and experimented with both hyper-realism and abstraction in oils. Tonight he will explain his unusual career and wield his incredible magic with Chinese brushes.
June 4 Helen Whittaker : Artist in Stained Glass Helen is primarily an artist, but her medium is glass. Through her drawing and colour skills she creates pictures with light. Much in demand throughout the country she recently completed a window in nearby Rothwell church (go and see it!). She will show how she develops and makes her creations.
July 2 Members’ Forum : Details to be announced later Selected members demonstrate their specialities and answer questions.
August 6 Pro-Arte Brushes : A Brushmaker’s Story Pro-Arte supply a huge range of artists’ brushes to art shops nationwide. Find out what is available, their special characteristics and how to use them, and how they are produced. Then choose your favourites! (to be confirmed)
September 3 Annual General Meeting 2008 : followed by Special Pencils, in which Allan Scott will show examples of 19th & early 20th century drawing instruments from his remarkable personal collection.
